Format for Exceptional Closure Day for Reviewing Proposals for KS3 Curriculum

Staff should have had opportunities to read materials – particularly the Teacher’s red pack - in advance of the meeting. It is important that all staff have the relevant sections from the questionnaire

 

Option 1

View Video for overview of proposals and run PowerPoint Presentation

(See supporting notes to accompany the presentation)

 

Divide Whole staff into 2

Carry out a SWOT analysis on the main proposals from the teacher’s perspective

Carry out a SWOT analysis on the main proposals from the pupil’s perspective

Each group reports back

SWOT analysis; Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (Allow equal time for consideration of each)

 

Break out Groups

Whole school issues eg Whole School Development Planning, Introduction of Learning for Life and Work, Assessment - Sub groups meets and prepare response

Learning Areas/Subject Strands meet and prepare response in relation to the questions posed in the questionnaire

Responses to be co-ordinated for overall school response

In order to assist this activity departments may wish to audit their current provision against what is being proposed and identify if the statements of entitlement offer the opportunities to build on best practice

 

Option 2

Brainstorming session - In groups identify what all young people at KS3 should know, understand and be able to do. Chart the responses for the plenary.

Learning Areas/ Subject Strands meet and prepare response in relation to

  • the appropriateness of the format
  • the detail of the  Statements of Minimum Entitlement, guidance and examples,
  • potential for collaboration

 

Plenary – refer to chart from introduction

Consider the extent to which the new proposals provide opportunities to meet the identified needs of the young people and how their own school may build on this minimum entitlement to reflect the school’s ethos.
