This
third series of lessons based around the theme of Race
will provide you with starting points for the exploration of issues
associated with racism. Each series of lessons will address these
overall aims
to encourage students to appreciate how they themselves are
different, contributing to a climate of respect for the differences
present within the class.
to prepare students for intercultural living in society.
Each
activity will have identifiable objectives, associated materials
and tasks and will provide the students with the opportunity
to upload their individual or collective responses to the website
www.niclr.com/NetConnect. It is worth noting that some of this
material is designed to challenge the accepted, or indeed your
own view. Use the differences as a basis for further exploration
and discussion. Much of the material contained in this section
needs to be handled sensitively by the teacher. In particular,
'Exclusively Yours' needs skilful management on the part of
the teacher. It is important to reinforce the charter of rights
established by the students in Issue 1 where it was made clear
that all students should be given a voice and not feel intimidated.
In the 'Bowled Over' game it is vital that the teacher stresses
this activity is for the student's own reflection and no one
will be forced to disclose his/her scores.
